This discussion is worth 40 points so it is a significant part of the week 4 grade. Points will be awarded in the following manner”

• 20 points for initial response to discussion prompt – to receive full credit, response must be substantive and must be posted by 11:59 pm, AZ time, on Thursday of week 4. Late penalties of 1 point per day will apply.
• 10 points for each reply up to two – to receive full credit, replies must be posted by 11:59 pm, AZ time, on Monday of week 4 and must be substantive. Generic replies such as “Good post” or “I agree with you” will not count toward participation.
• A 3 point penalty will be assessed if posts are not submitted on at least two separate days of the week.
• Only what is posted during week 4 will count toward the discussion grade.

This week you will explore the wonderful world of descriptive statistics. You may not have noticed how often you are presented with statistics in the media and in everyday conversations. It is common for people to make

statements like “Statistics show that… [insert claim].”

Respond to the following question in a minimum of 175 words:

• What sorts of follow up questions about the statistics might you ask that person in order to obtain the data needed to make a decision about the validity of that statement? Be sure to use concepts and vocabulary from this week to guide your response.
