Describe what GHS is. The GHS is known for standardizing and formatting the content of SDSs into 16 sections with a strict ordering. With six elements that are regulated, labels appear different compared to how they were in the past. The standardized components include precise language dependent upon the classification of the chemical. GHS is responsible for classifying as well as defining the hazards of chemical products. Also, GHS is in charge of communicating information on safety and health, on safety data sheet and labels (Meyer, 2014). The objective is that the same SDSs (safety data sheets), hazards classifying rules, as well as the same content and format for labels will be applied globally. A global team of experts in hazard communication developed GHS. Once the key objective is met, the GHS will see a decline in the cost of providing hazard information globally (Meyer, 2014).

In your opinion, what are the benefits and drawbacks of this system?

The main advantage of adopting the GHS is the increment in consistency and quality of the information being provided to chemical users and workers (Meyer, 2014). The GHS is hopeful that the employees at international level will have a better understanding, health, and safety. This is the reason as to why they are applying a standardized approach in chemical classification and labels and SDS formatting (Meyer, 2014). The standardized labels and SDS formats purpose at both helping workers who are exposed to chemicals access and comprehend information proficiently and reducing the burden of compliance. Also, the use of the classification system that is standardized will make it unnecessary to test and evaluate chemicals against national rating systems.
